Peparnas: Papua team emerges as general champions in judo

The Papua team became the general champions in the visually impaired judo sport at the Peparnas XVI Papua after six days of competitions at GOR Trikora of Cenderawasih University, Jayapura.

Papua team became the group winner after coming first in the medal rankings. Papua won 21 medals—11 gold, 3 silver, and 7 bronze—in judo.

On the last day of the judo competition, the home team managed to secure one gold medal in the women's elite freestyle, after Disiana Bin Syarifudin from Papua successfully beat Roma Siska from Riau.

In addition, Papuan athletes Novia Larasati and Scolastika Nadya Valentine clinched bronze medals in the women's elite freestyle.

The West Java team took second place by collecting 18 medals: 5 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze.

West Java's Rafli Ahnaf Shidqi struck gold in the men's elite freestyle, Rizky Budiman took the silver medal, and Jaka Setiadi secured the bronze medal.

South Kalimantan came third in the medal rankings with 7 medals: 2 gold medals, 3 silver, and 2 bronze.

Judo competitions were held in three categories at the National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) Papua XVI, starting Monday (November 8, 2021) and closing on Saturday (November 13).

Referring to the Technical Handbook of Peparnas XVI, the judo athletes competed in three categories, B1, B2, and B3.

The visually impaired judo competition featured at least 20 disciplines for men and women athletes, who competed for a total of 112 medals comprising 28 gold, 28 silver, and 56 bronze medals.
